"Second Saturdays"
Next Event
This month (January 2022) we begin a 5-month exploration of the supporting practices for Centering Prayer as developed by Contemplative Outreach, Ltd and Fr. Thomas Keating with a presentation on Lectio Divina by Bob Gullo.
Lectio Divina is the most traditional way of cultivating friendship with Christ. It is a way of listening to the texts of scripture as if we were in conversation with Christ and He was suggesting the topics of conversation. The daily encounter with Christ and reflection on His word leads beyond mere acquaintanceship to an attitude of friendship, trust and love. Conversation simplifies and gives way to communing, or as Gregory the Great (6th Century) puts it "resting in God." In summary, it is a way to nourish our relationship with God.
Bob Gullo has been doing Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina for over twenty years. He was a founding member of CONOVA (Contemplative Outreach of Northern Virginia) in 2009, and was active in the chapter for its first 9 years.
